Irrigation Employment Surpasses 75,000, Nearing Target of 84,000

Bangkok: Irrigation employment in Thailand has seen significant growth, with more than 75,000 workers hired to boost income for farmers and the general public, according to recent government reports. The Minister of Agriculture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, expressed confidence in reaching the target of 84,000 workers by September.

According to Thai News Agency, the employment figures for the irrigation project in 2025 have reached 75,293 participants, which is 89 percent of the target, since the project began in October 2024. This initiative aims to provide additional income for farmers during the off-season, with continuous recruitment efforts underway. The top three provinces benefiting from this employment drive are Sakon Nakhon with 5,230 workers, Ubon Ratchathani with 3,692, and Kalasin with 3,130.

The Royal Irrigation Department is actively recruiting in the final three months of the fiscal year to offer supplementary income opportunities, especially during the rainy season when many farmers are not engaged in planting. Farmers interested in joining the initiative are encouraged to apply.

“The Ministry of Agriculture is committed to implementing government policies that promote employment and career development for the people,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narumon. “Thai farmers must have a better quality of life and be able to rely on themselves. We will continue to support projects that improve the lives of over 30 million farmers nationwide.”
