Khlong Luek: This morning, the Khlong Luek checkpoint was unusually quiet. The recent concession allowing stranded Thai and Cambodian nationals to cross the border back to their hometowns has led to a subdued atmosphere on the Thai side of the checkpoint. Despite this, some Cambodians remain at the checkpoint, hopeful for a chance to cross.
According to Thai News Agency, Khlong Luek police engaged with the Cambodians waiting at the checkpoint, advising them to wait at home for any potential changes to the current order. One individual, unaware of the recent concession due to being at work, arrived at the checkpoint with hopes of crossing. Upon realizing the border remains closed, he plans to return to his workplace in the Watthana district if he cannot cross today.
The Khlong Luek Police Station emphasized to those waiting that the order to close the border is still in effect. They urged individuals to inform their relatives planning to come to the checkpoint to stay at their accommodations and monitor the news for any updates. The police did not provide any assurance of further concessions, leaving the situation uncertain. The hot weather adds to the conditions faced by those waiting at the checkpoint.
