Bangkok: Officials from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation have ordered the quarantine of lions at a well-known zoo to adjust their behavior, separating them by gender and closely monitoring them.
According to Thai News Agency, the decision came after a lion attack led to the death of an animal caretaker at the zoo located in the Khlong Sam Wa area of Bangkok. The officials mandated that all lions in the pride be temporarily confined to cages, with males and females separated to facilitate close monitoring of their behavior. The lion responsible for the fatal attack was identified as a male named Trump. In total, five lions were involved in the attack: Trump, Bite (male), Aon (female), Ai (female), and Yao (female). All the lions are approximately 10 years old.
The Wildlife Conservation Office is currently assessing the zoo’s safety measures. They have stipulated that the dangerous animal exhibit will remain closed until the zoo can prove to the Department of National Parks that it has a comprehensive emergency response plan, procedures, and equipment to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. Only after meeting these requirements will the exhibit be allowed to reopen.
