Meteorological Department Issues Alert for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms in Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about heavy rain expected in some areas of the northern region. Residents are advised to remain vigilant as the heavy rainfall could result in flash floods and mudslides. Meanwhile, Bangkok and its vicinity have a 70% chance of experiencing thunderstorms.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department predicts that thunderstorms will persist across Thailand over the next 24 hours. The monsoon trough passing through the North and upper Northeast, along with a moderate southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, will contribute to the heavy rainfall in the North. Residents are urged to be cautious of the accumulated rain, which may lead to flash floods and mudslides, especially on hillsides near waterways and in low-lying regions.

In maritime areas, waves in the upper Andaman Sea are reported to be moderate, reaching about 2 meters in height. In regions experiencing thunderstorms, wave heights exceed 2 meters. Similarly, in the lower Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, waves are between 1 to 2 meters high, but surpass 2 meters in stormy conditions. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid navigating through areas affected by thunderstorms.

Bangkok and the surrounding areas are forecasted to experience thunderstorms with a 70% probability of rain. The temperature in Bangkok is expected to range between a minimum of 24-26 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 31-33 degrees Celsius.
