Mail Truck Collision Causes Massive Traffic Jam on Phahonyothin Road

Bangkok: A loud crash early this morning resulted in a bus rear-ending a truck carrying piles, which penetrated the passenger compartment, injuring the driver and conductor. The accident occurred on Phahonyothin Road, outbound, in front of Bangkok University, leading to a traffic jam stretching for 10 kilometers. Traffic has now been reopened.

According to Thai News Agency, police from Khlong Luang Police Station investigated the collision between the bus and the truck. At the scene, they found that a pile from an orange air-conditioned bus, route 39, on the Talat Thai-Victory Monument route, had penetrated the windshield. Two individuals were injured in the incident: a male driver and a female bus conductor. Rescue workers transported them to the hospital for treatment. Nearby, a 22-meter trailer truck carrying damaged piles was parked.

Mr. Manoch, age 48, the driver of the pile truck, explained that he was transporting piles from Lopburi Province and was preparing to turn into Bangkok University. Other vehicles had already braked, and he had signaled his intention to turn. However, the bus appeared suddenly and crashed into the piles with full force, causing the piles to penetrate the bus.

In response, police and the Highways Department coordinated with forklifts and large cranes to remove the bus and damaged piles from the scene. They also cleared any fallen debris from the road to expedite traffic flow, as the backlog had extended over 10 kilometers. Traffic has since resumed in all lanes.
