New york city: “Maris” leads Thai representatives to join the HLPF2025 stage in New York City, showcasing Thailand’s development according to the SDGs target, ranked number 1 in ASEAN, and emphasizing the principle of public participation.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Maris Sangiampong, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, is currently visiting the United States to lead a Thai delegation at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2025 (HLPF2025) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. This forum is organized under the main theme of ‘Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind.’ It is an important annual United Nations event aimed at monitoring and accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals.

Mr. Maris revealed that on the first day of his trip to New York City, he presented the report of the third Voluntary National Review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Thailand. This report reflects the development over a decade in implementing the SDGs in Thailand, based on data analysis, participation from relevant sectors, and the voice of the community in determining the direction. Thailand is proud to be ranked 1st in ASEAN and 3rd in Asia Pacific in the SDGs Index, which reflects the cooperation of all sectors in Thai society.

Mr. Maris also explained that this year’s Thailand VNR report emphasized the importance of local people’s participation. He co-launched a parallel event under the theme ‘Local to Global – Empowering Communities through Upcycled Innovation for Sustainable Growth’. The exhibition showcased the creativity of local Thai entrepreneurs in promoting the circular economy by transforming waste materials into valuable products, reflecting Thailand’s vision of driving an economy based on inclusivity and sustainability, which are the core of the SDGs.

Mr. Maris stressed the importance of accelerating progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with only five years left until 2030.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations’ adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Thailand has focused on three key areas in this report: statistical analysis to reflect Thailand’s progress in implementing the SDGs over the past 10 years; presentation of good practices in driving the SDGs through the presentation of outstanding policies/projects in economic, social, and environmental development; and analysis of challenges and ways to accelerate implementation in the remaining 5 years of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These assessments were conducted by both the government and various sectors of Thailand to reflect comprehensive progress and challenges.
