Buriram: The Mine Action Center concluded its mission today after supporting the clearance of bombs from the Thai-Cambodian border clash, clearing more than 800 unexploded ordnances in four southern Isan border provinces.
According to Thai News Agency, the National Mine Action Center (TMAC) ended its mission after supporting the clearance of bombs from the Thai-Cambodian border clashes from August 1-16. TMAC successfully cleared more than 800 pieces of unexploded ordnance in four southern Isan border provinces: Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani. The ordnances included BM-21 shells, artillery shells, machine guns, and rockets.
Prior to the tense situation, Cambodia had been obstructing demining efforts and was insincere in addressing the issue, despite being a party to the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of anti-personnel mines.
In Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, 81 houses were damaged in the clashes, with 65 houses already repaired. Officials will expedite the process to ensure residents have comfortable and safe homes once again.
