Ministry of Defence Denies Discriminatory Remarks Against Cambodia

Bangkok: The Ministry of Defence has categorically denied any discriminatory remarks against Cambodia, countering claims that surfaced on social media. It was asserted that the Deputy Minister of Defense never provided an interview as alleged online.

According to Thai News Agency, on July 31, 2015, reports emerged that Cambodian social media circulated allegations about the Deputy Minister of Defense making disparaging comments against Cambodia. General Nattapol Nakphanit, who serves as the Deputy Minister of Defense and the Director of the Center for the Prevention and Suppression of Crime (CSD), clarified that he never made such statements or participated in any interviews referenced in the social media posts. He also detailed an incident involving 18 Cambodian soldiers who entered Thai territory fully armed and were detained by the Thai military. The detainees were treated in accordance with military regulations and international humanitarian principles, receiving food, water, and medical care. The injured soldiers were treated, and the deceased were respectfully returned to Cambodia.

General Nattapol reaffirmed Thailand’s position, stating, “We assert our sovereignty and will not allow any encroachment.” He stressed that Thailand is committed to humanitarian principles and avoids excessive actions in such situations.
