NHSO Ensures Uninterrupted Gold Card Access Amid Thai-Cambodian Border Unrest

Bangkok: Organize a system to support patients in critical areas, ensuring the Gold Card is not interrupted. The National Health Security Office (NHSO) has set up a system to support patients in critical areas, confirming continued access to treatment in all areas.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikan Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that due to the unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border and flooding in several northern provinces, which have impacted travel and access to healthcare services for citizens with the 30-baht gold card scheme, the government has tasked the NHSO with expediting a support system to ensure citizens can continue to enjoy free medical services.

Initially, the NHSO has coordinated with service units nationwide and issued guidelines in case of emergencies, such as exempting patients from eligibility closure after receiving services, exempting dialysis requirements beyond the capacity of the service unit, increasing dialysis rounds, and providing care for elderly people with dependent conditions in the LTC system who have been relocated from their original areas, using funds from relevant funds through cooperation with local administrative organizations.

For patients who must travel to Bangkok or other areas, the NHSO has established a support system in collaboration with local service units, emphasizing that this is considered a “reasonable circumstance” to ensure that people can still access services without being denied access. The NHSO has also provided a shuttle service for dependent patients to ensure continuous care.

Regarding damage to essential equipment such as dialysis fluid and adult diapers, the NHSO has coordinated with Thailand Post Distribution Co., Ltd. to deliver dialysis fluid to homes and has instructed local administrative organizations to assist with the provision of adult diapers, minimizing the burden on the public.

In addition, patients with chronic illnesses can continue receiving medication from a nearby hospital as appropriate, without being limited to a seven-day supply. Meanwhile, the NHSO has expanded options for citizens to exercise their “30 Baht Treatment Everywhere” rights at quality pharmacies nationwide and consult with doctors online via participating applications, increasing flexibility in accessing services during the crisis.

“During this difficult time, the government will not leave anyone behind. All citizens can continue to enjoy their Gold Card rights free of charge in all areas. I request the cooperation of service providers nationwide to provide the best possible care to the public. I also confirm that service fees can be reimbursed in accordance with the criteria set by the NHSO in all necessary cases,” said Ms. Sasikarn.
