Bangkok: “Ms. Golf” entered the Crime Suppression Division’s detention cell, visibly exhausted and bowing her hands in apology. Despite the gravity of her situation, she maintained silence, refraining from answering any questions about her feelings of remorse or willingness to apologize for her actions. Police from Division 2 of the Anti-Corruption Division (ACD) escorted Ms. Wilawan, also known as Sika Golf, into custody.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Col. Charoonkiat Pankaew of the Central Investigation Bureau has charged the 35-year-old Ms. Golf with three counts, including supporting the commission of an offence, acting improperly as an official, receiving stolen goods, conspiring to launder money, and money laundering. Investigations revealed signs of extortion against a former Venerable Ach, prompting authorities to take action while prioritizing the maintenance of monastic discipline to prevent reputational damage.
Further investigations uncovered Ms. Golf’s past relationship with former Ch
ao Khun Ach in May 2024. After their separation, she claimed to have a child with him and demanded 7.2 million baht in child support, which he could not afford, leading him to distance himself from her. The police traced financial transactions involving several temples and, upon searching Ms. Golf’s residence, seized evidence that implicated multiple monks in the scandal. The evidence included incriminating clips and chat records, suggesting her involvement in extortion and blackmail. Consequently, 9 out of 13 monks found guilty of disciplinary offenses have disrobed.
A thorough examination of Ms. Golf’s financial records over the past three years revealed a turnover of 385 million baht, with significant amounts transferred to gambling websites. Her account balance has dwindled to 8,000 baht.
