Nantana Calls for Merit-Based Cabinet Selection Amid Political Tensions

Bangkok: Ms. Nantana Nantvaropas, a senator, addressed the ongoing discussions regarding the cabinet reshuffle of Ing 2, emphasizing the need for a merit-based selection process.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nantana highlighted that the current cabinet list, which has been described as being organized according to a quota system, may not fully consider the qualifications and abilities of the individuals for their respective ministerial positions. She urged decision-makers to prioritize the needs of the people by selecting candidates who are well-suited for the roles, especially given the economic and border issues facing Thailand.

When questioned about the stability of the current government in light of growing protests, Ms. Nantana acknowledged the public’s right to express dissatisfaction, particularly regarding a leaked audio clip involving Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra and Samdech Hun Sen. She noted that the government had faced a critical decision to either dissolve parliament or resign but chose to continue its tenure by issuing an apology. Ms. Nantana expressed concern about the potential impact of ongoing public demands and ethics complaints against the Prime Minister, suggesting that these issues could pose significant challenges for the government’s ability to maintain its course.
