Bangkok: The National Police Chief has clarified that the recent collapse of the ceiling at the Immigration Bureau’s Training Center is not connected to the building’s structural integrity.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief, explained that the ceiling collapse in the Chaeng Yod Suk meeting room on the third floor was caused by a malfunction in the air conditioning condenser system. The system’s failure led to water dripping onto the ceiling, accumulating over time, and ultimately causing the ceiling to rot and fall. The air conditioning unit, which had been operational for approximately three years without cleaning, became clogged, reducing airflow and necessitating urgent maintenance, including filter changes and regular cleaning every six months.
The national police chief further stated that he has directed the Public Works Division, the Logistics Office, and the Immigration Bureau to conduct an urgent inspection of the affected meeting room’s ceiling. Additionally, routine maintenance of the air conditioning system has been mandated to prevent similar incidents. Inspections of other areas within the facility related to the air conditioning system will also be carried out to ensure safety. He assured that the collapse was entirely unrelated to the structural aspects of the building.
