PAD Group Demands Action Against Police Doctors Over Thaksin’s Hospitalization

Bangkok: The PAD group has formally requested the National Police Chief to temporarily dismiss two police doctors involved in the controversial hospitalization of Thaksin Shinawatra, who allegedly received preferential treatment on the 14th floor of the Police Hospital. The PAD group warns of escalating pressure weekly if the matter is not addressed.

According to Thai News Agency, the Student and People’s Network for Reform of Thailand (SNNRT) and the Dharma Army, led by Mr. Pichit Chaiyamongkol, organized a march from Chamai Maruchet Bridge to the Royal Thai Police Headquarters. They submitted a letter urging the dismissal of the two police doctors accused of providing inaccurate medical information, which allegedly led to special treatment for the prisoner at the Police Hospital.

In response to the protest, the Royal Thai Police deployed over 100 officers, including riot control units, to ensure public safety and manage traffic. Upon arrival at the headquarters, the PAD group delivered a speech demanding the Royal Thai Police investigate whether the actions of the two police officers constituted an offense. This demand follows a unanimous ruling by the Medical Council that the doctors had provided false information. The speech lasted over an hour, emphasizing the need for accountability.

Mr. Pichit highlighted the Medical Council’s decision to penalize the medical personnel involved and stressed the need for immediate action from the National Police Chief. He called for the establishment of a committee to prosecute criminal and disciplinary cases, particularly under Section 157, which outlines serious offenses. Mr. Pichit emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, noting that the assistant national police chief, among others, is under scrutiny by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). He further stated that if the Royal Thai Police claim they have not yet received the Medical Council’s resolution, the group will persistently follow up. Any delay in action will be unacceptable to the group.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Archayon Kraithong, spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, received the letter on behalf of the National Police Chief. He confirmed that the National Police Chief has been informed of the situation and will consider the letter. The spokesman noted that they are awaiting the official resolution from the Medical Council, which will be forwarded to the National Police Office for further action. The matter will then be presented to the National Police Chief for legal processing.
