Paethongtarn Visits Nan to Assess Flood Impact and Support Residents

Bangkok: Paethongtarn and the Second Minister of the Interior visited Nan to monitor the impact and offer support to residents affected by Tropical Storm Wipha. Meanwhile, the Fine Arts Department found no damage to the murals depicting Pu Man and Ya Man from the flooding. Cracks were found in the chapel, but the structure was not affected.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, along with Ms. Teerarat Samretwanich, Deputy Minister of Interior, visited Nan Province to monitor the impact of Tropical Storm Wipha, which has caused severe flooding.

The first inspection point is to monitor the impact and damage to the ancient site and the mural paintings of Pu Man and Ya Man at Wat Phumin. Initially, Mr. Phanombut Chanthachoti, Director-General of the Fine Arts Department, stated that the mural paintings were not directly damaged, but may have experienced moisture problems later. The Fine Arts Department will conduct a survey and determine appropriate conservation measures. Regarding the foundation, the Fine Arts Department will assess the damage and allocate funds for urgent restoration.

Ms. Paethongtarn then met with, offered encouragement, and distributed relief bags to flood victims. She stated that the Ministry of Culture, representing the Cabinet, has also come to provide care for various damaged sites, including temples and historical sites. She stated that several ministers have already visited the area and that she is delighted to be here today. She wants to offer encouragement to everyone, as the water levels will be difficult once the floodwaters recede, and the restoration, cleaning, and maintenance of the area will be difficult. She confirmed that the government does not intend to abandon the people. She has been there to monitor the situation and will provide support if any deficiencies arise. She expressed her support and sincerity to everyone, stating that the government is fully committed to assisting in the rehabilitation and care of the people.

In the afternoon, Ms. Paethongtarn and her team will travel to Wiang Sa Vocational College to distribute relief supplies and offer support to disaster victims in Ban Tha Don Chai.
