People Condemn Protest Leaders’ Speeches with the Intention of Paving the Way for a Coup

Bangkok: The People’s Party has voiced its condemnation of recent speeches made by protest leaders, accusing them of inciting nationalism and potentially paving the way for a coup. The party emphasizes that the resolution of the current political crisis lies in dissolving parliament and holding new elections.

According to Thai News Agency, the People’s Party expressed its concerns regarding the rally organized by the “United Power of the Land” group on June 28 at the Victory Monument. While the rally’s official demands, such as the resignation of Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra and the withdrawal of coalition parties from government support, align with democratic principles, the People’s Party criticized the content of some speeches. They argue that these speeches legitimized the idea of a coup and incited nationalism beyond acceptable limits.

The People’s Party firmly condemns any actions that legitimize a coup, viewing them as severe violations of the constitution and the democratic regime. The party urges those dissatisfied with the Prime Minister and the government to reconsider their support for the Ruam Palang Phaendin group. This group, according to the People’s Party, is composed of individuals who intend to support coups and interfere in politics through non-democratic means.

The People’s Party stresses the lessons learned over the past two decades, during which the country has suffered from the effects of two coups. These events have exacerbated issues such as the misuse of power, corruption, a distorted justice system, and the monopolization of capital by certain groups. The party warns against allowing a similar situation to unfold, which could lead to further political and economic crises.

The People’s Party insists that the optimal solution to the ongoing political crisis is through the parliamentary system. They advocate for the dissolution of parliament and the organization of new elections, allowing the people to determine the country’s leadership and government. By returning power to the people, the party believes that the highest authority in the country can decide on the future direction and leadership of the nation.
