People’s Party and Pheu Thai Party Engage in Strategic Discussions

Bangkok: The People’s Party and the Pheu Thai Party have engaged in private discussions aimed at potentially forming a strategic alliance. Both parties are preparing to extend an invitation to each other, should a mutually beneficial agreement be reached.

According to Thai News Agency, Surawong, a key figure in the discussions, revealed that these two parties share a foundational ideology but have been historically divided by political circumstances. He stressed the importance of careful consideration and negotiation, requesting an extension of the negotiation period from four to six months to adequately address the proposals on the table.

Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, addressed the three proposals from the People’s Party (P.P.C.), noting that the Pheu Thai Party is willing to consider them. He acknowledged differing opinions among several MPs but remains committed to resolving these differences through ongoing discussions.

Sorawong also mentioned the informal talks with the Prachachon Party, indicating that close allies naturally engage in behind-the-scenes discussions to explore proposal feasibility. He emphasized the importance of realistic commitments, particularly regarding constitutional amendments, and expressed the need for thorough consideration to avoid unfulfilled promises.

Additionally, Sorawong clarified that any formal negotiations with the Prachachon Party would depend on the finalization of discussions. An official invitation would be extended only if the proposed plans are achievable and practical.

Reflecting on the Pheu Thai Party’s past interactions with the Move Forward Party, Mr. Surawong noted that political events had previously forced a separation despite their shared commitment to democracy.
