Permanent Secretary Orders Investigation into Iris Scanning for Coins

Bangkok: The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior has ordered an immediate investigation into the practice of iris scanning in exchange for coins, revealing that he has not yet received a report on the issue.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampantharat, the Permanent Secretary, addressed reports that individuals were scanning citizens’ irises and inviting them to use an app in exchange for money or coins. He emphasized that although no official reports have been received, the Ministry of Interior will take action if the practice is found to be inappropriate. The Department of Provincial Administration has been tasked with investigating the matter promptly. Citizens are encouraged to report any inappropriate behavior to the Ministry of Interior to ensure that all provinces can investigate thoroughly.

There have been specific reports of such operations in Surat Thani Province. The Permanent Secretary confirmed that an urgent investigation will be conducted in Surat Thani and other provinces where complaints have been lodged. The goal is to ascertain whether any irregularities stem from the actions of government officials or other individuals. If involvement by government officials is discovered, the Ministry of Interior is committed to enforcing regulations strictly. Mr. Sampantharat assured the public of the ministry’s readiness to conduct transparent investigations.
