Bangkok: “Phradon” has announced travel plans to flood-affected areas in the Central region with the Prime Minister.
According to Thai News Agency, Phradon, alongside the Prime Minister, will visit the Central River Basin provinces including Chainat, Nakhon Sawan, and Phichit. Their mission is to oversee the flood situation and initiate the first round of relief funds next week. The provinces have been tasked with collecting comprehensive data and providing daily reports on the situation.
Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, highlighted that the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul will evaluate the flood conditions firsthand. Compensation payments to those affected are set to proceed, with provinces required to report daily updates on the affected populace. These updates will be sent to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation for a thorough damage assessment, with findings presented at weekly Cabinet meetings.
Compensation payments are undergoing final reviews and are anticipated to receive approval shortly. The distribution of funds to impacted individuals will occur in installments, with the possibility of weekly disbursements based on provincial data. Local agencies are urged to ensure timely and complete data collection, as exemplified by Ang Thong Province’s delayed reporting.
Despite potential concerns about the rushed data collection process, Mr. Paradorn is confident in the capability of local agencies, noting that they have been actively gathering information. He acknowledges previous delays but emphasizes adherence to legal procedures to ensure a systematic approach.
