Phumtham Unaware of Election Commission’s Proposal to Dissolve Six Parties

Bangkok: “Phumtham” stated that he was not aware of the case of the EC preparing to propose the dissolution of 6 coalition parties. He met with “Thaksin” at Ban Chan Song La, revealing that at that time he was in Kazakhstan.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who is currently acting as Prime Minister, addressed the situation regarding the Election Commission’s (EC) intention to propose the dissolution of six coalition parties. These parties are allegedly involved in a meeting with Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister, at his residence in Chan Song La. Mr. Thaksin, considered an outsider to these political parties, is suspected of exerting undue influence over them. If the parties are found guilty, the matter will be escalated to the Constitutional Court for further action.

Mr. Phumtham clarified that he had no knowledge of the events as he was in Kazakhstan at the time. He recounted that during his stay, he received news about the court’s decision to remove Mr. Settha Thavisin from the position of Prime Minister. Following this development, Mr. Settha contacted Mr. Phumtham, urging him to return to the country immediately. Mr. Phumtham emphasized that his engagement in Kazakhstan was limited to meeting with the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, and he was not involved in any other related issues. He stressed the importance of following due process in this matter.
