Pakornwut Commits to Opposition’s Parliamentary Readiness Amid Narrow Government Votes

Bangkok: ‘Pakornwut’ has expressed the opposition’s readiness to vote in parliament consistently, especially after the government’s votes have shown narrow margins. He emphasized that the opposition is poised to submit a censure motion as per Article 151 when the time is right, assuring that there will be no hesitation when that moment arrives.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pakornwut Udompipatsakul, MP for the Prachachon Party (P.P.C.) and chairman of the opposition party coordination committee, discussed the importance of opposition MPs attending the upcoming House of Representatives meeting. This meeting, scheduled for July 16, will cover significant agendas, including the draft bill on amnesty and the draft referendum bill. Mr. Pakornwut highlighted the necessity for all opposition MPs to be prepared to vote, mentioning that the draft bill on labor protection has already been reviewed by the committee.

When questioned about the collaboration with the Bhumjaithai Party (BJT) as an opposition ally, Mr. Pakornwut noted ongoing progress and the establishment of working groups on various issues. Initially, there was consideration of a no-confidence motion under Article 151, but the decision was made to wait for the optimal timing to ensure comprehensive information. The focus is on substance and content rather than mere political timing, ensuring that when the time is right, the opposition will proceed confidently with a motion of no confidence.

Discussing the potential parliament dissolution, Mr. Pakornwut acknowledged that there is an assessment in place, but if parliament dissolves, submitting a no-confidence motion becomes unnecessary. The dissolution aligns with the People’s Party’s demands, negating the need for a debate under Article 151.

Regarding any special instructions for the People’s Party MPs, Mr. Pakornwut indicated that the focus remains on participating in parliamentary meetings, given the government’s slim voting margin. He observed that the opposition has a chance to influence every vote, and MPs will be continually reminded of the importance of being prepared in parliament.
