Phumtham Wechayachai Calls for Reform in Pheu Thai Party Amid Election Preparedness

Bangkok: “Bhumtham” admits the need to overhaul the system and reform the Pheu Thai Party to fight the election. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who is a core leader of the Pheu Thai Party, addressed concerns regarding potential changes in party leadership. He emphasized the necessity for party reform and readiness for the upcoming elections. The comments came in light of recent revelations by the CSI LA Facebook page about a network linked to individuals close to former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham discussed the possibility of a mid-term leadership change, highlighting Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra’s commitment to the party. He reiterated that the Pheu Thai Party is prepared in many areas but requires systemic integration. There is an acknowledgment of past shortcomings due to limited opportunities for involvement, which will be addressed moving forward.

When questioned about the direction change in the Pheu Thai Party following a meeting with MPs, Mr. Phumtham confirmed efforts to reform the party. This includes system rebuilding, coordination, and election preparedness. He acknowledged the challenge posed by the upcoming Sisaket by-election but expressed confidence in the party’s existing processes.

Mr. Phumtham also responded to allegations from the CSI LA Facebook page concerning Ms. Paethongtarn’s network, which reportedly leverages political and business connections for personal gain. He admitted the complexity of identifying involved parties, stressing the need for judicial intervention. Despite uncertainties, he maintained that politicians should be ready to face scrutiny.
