PM Visits Chiang Rai to Address Flooding Amid Protest Concerns

Bangkok: This morning, Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra and her team departed from the 2nd Military Airport, Wing 6, Don Mueang, Bangkok, to Mae Fah Luang Airport, Ban Du Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District, Chiang Rai Province. The purpose of the visit is to monitor the flood situation following heavy rain, extend aid to those affected, and encourage ethnic groups who have recently received Thai citizenship.

According to Thai News Agency, prior to her departure, the Prime Minister addressed the media regarding the Ruam Palang Phaendin group’s planned large rally at Victory Monument, which is calling for her resignation. She stated that security agencies have been asked to maintain peace and order. When questioned about any concerning reports, the Prime Minister responded that there was nothing alarming yet and emphasized that holding rallies is a right, urging careful oversight to avoid violence.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that the rally, which involves multiple groups, would not escal
ate. When further questioned about the protest’s demand for her resignation, Ms. Paethongtarn reiterated that it is a right and she does not anticipate any conflict, stating her openness to peaceful dialogue if the situation allows.

During today’s visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inspect flood conditions in Phaya Mengrai District and Wat Santi Khiri, offering support and distributing relief bags to the affected population. Additionally, she plans to address online crime resolution efforts in Chiang Saen District, focusing on strategies to combat call center gangs. The day will conclude with a meeting to encourage ethnic groups granted Thai citizenship, in line with a resolution by the Ministry of Interior, at Mae Chan Wittayakhom School in Mae Chan District.
