Police Investigation Uncovers Embezzlement at Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu

Bangkok: Police investigating the money trail found three or four close associates involved in the embezzlement of assets belonging to Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu. They also found evidence that Dr. B had indeed transferred houses and land to other individuals.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Anek Taosuphap, deputy commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), revealed that regarding the interrogation of former monk Alongkot, also known as Tid George, and Mr. Seksan, also known as Dr. B, the two men were quite stressed and anxious due to the significant situation they were facing. During their statements, the two men continued to deny the allegations and have yet to provide detailed statements. Regarding several questions, they will have their lawyers prepare written statements to clarify within 30 days.

Regarding the issuance of arrest warrants or summonses for individuals close to those involved, investigations have identified individuals close to those involved. However, authorities must wait to see if they are also involved in the wrongdoing network. Therefore, time is requested for the investigation.

Regarding the financial trail related to Dr. B, it was found that approximately 3-4 individuals were involved. Police are currently investigating the details to determine which parties are involved.

Concerning rumors that celebrities, singers, and influencers are involved, Pol. Col. Anek stated that the Crime Suppression Division is solely responsible for investigating Dr. B’s financial affairs and their connections to the abbot of Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu. However, this investigation will require the involvement of relevant agencies, which will be the responsibility of the Central Investigation Bureau. This includes the temple’s assets held by others. Therefore, the investigation, which has revealed over 300 million baht in financial assets, will require the police to investigate how these connections are connected.

Regarding the case of the large black luxury house in the Chatuchak area, which was found to have been transferred to another person, Pol. Col. Anek said he has information but would not disclose details yet.

Regarding the information that the former monk Alongkot helped design the Petronas Towers in Malaysia, it was recorded during questioning, and the monk gave such a statement. Whether it’s true or not will require further investigation, based on logic and reason. Initially, the police believe it’s a claim made by the former monk, as it’s not part of the case but rather a matter of public interest. They emphasized that they would need some time to investigate the matter to determine the truth, as they had only spoken with him yesterday. Once clarification is obtained, a statement will be issued with more details.

As for the timeline that disappeared during the 5-6 years before he became a monk, did he say what he was doing? Pol. Col. Anek said that it was as the media reported.

Pol. Col. Anek also spoke about the issuance of arrest warrants for those involved in the second phase of this case, saying he would like to review the details further. He also mentioned the news that a former journalist in Lopburi Province was threatened with a shooting, which he received from the media. He said he would need to verify the information first.

Regarding the academy and clubs, whether the police will seize them, Pol. Col. Anek stated that the police will not interfere in that matter, but rather it is the Anti-Money Laundering Office’s procedure. If it is found that the assets were obtained through illegal activity, action must be taken.
