Bangkok: The National Police Chief announced the results of the operation ‘Close the City, Subdue the Thieves, Overthrow the Influence’, which mobilized to sweep for firearms for 7 days, seizing more than 4,000 guns.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief, led a team to announce the results of the nationwide crime suppression campaign under the strategic plan ‘Close the city, suppress the bandits, and overthrow influence,’ which was carried out between 14-20 June 2025.
Due to the crime situation where perpetrators often use firearms to commit crimes and the tendency to increase, various commands were ordered to mobilize forces to prevent and suppress crimes affecting the peace and safety of the people. The main goal was to suppress crimes related to firearms, ammunition, explosives, and to arrest individuals with outstanding arrest warrants. Pol. Gen. Thanayut Wuticharatthamrong, Special Advisor to the Royal Thai Police, supervised the operation.
The results of the operation over the 7 days included a total of 4,590 arrests in cases involving firearms and explosives, involving 3,686 suspects. Authorities seized 4,422 firearms, 26,490 rounds of ammunition, and 606 explosives, consisting of 37 standard bombs and 569 improvised explosive devices such as ping-pong bombs and pipe bombs. In online-related offenses, 165 firearms, 9,184 rounds of ammunition, and 5 explosives were confiscated.
In terms of tracking and arresting individuals with arrest warrants, a total of 9,951 suspects were apprehended out of 13,962 warrants, covering both old and new cases, including those from criminal courts nationwide.
This operation aligns with the government’s policy on maintaining domestic security. The Royal Thai Police has confirmed their commitment to strictly, seriously, and continuously enforce the law to build confidence among the people.
