Prime Minister Orders Evacuation Centers Amid Thai-Cambodian Border Unrest

Bangkok: The Prime Minister has issued an order for the preparation of evacuation centers in response to the ongoing unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border. This move comes as a proactive measure to ensure the safety and comfort of affected residents.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, highlighted the financial burden faced by villagers in Sisaket Province, who are currently paying 400 baht per day for temporary shelters due to the border tensions, as existing shelters remain closed. He stressed the importance of preparing evacuation centers to offer comfort and essential services to those displaced. Anutin assured that the government is working diligently to prepare for any necessary evacuations, aiming to minimize disruptions to daily life, including access to food and hygiene.

Anutin reflected on his previous experience in the opposition, where he successfully mobilized resources to support affected citizens. He emphasized that, under the current administration, efforts will be even more comprehensive and efficient. The Bhumjaithai Party, which oversees the affected border provinces, will continue to provide full support.

Anutin indicated that the decision on where to open shelters would be made by security and administrative authorities, but reassured the public that preparations are underway to address potential escalations.
