Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra Discusses Potential Cabinet Reshuffle Amidst Political Speculations

Bangkok: The Prime Minister stated that nothing has changed today, emphasizing that anything can happen with the cabinet reshuffle. She addressed the ongoing rumors and concerns surrounding potential changes within the government, particularly after the House of Representatives’ acceptance of the draft budget bill for the fiscal year 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra mentioned that if any changes were to occur involving ministers from the Pheu Thai Party, she would be the one to address them. She expressed concern over the widespread speculations causing unease among ministers and reiterated her commitment to discuss any developments within the party directly.

In response to questions about former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s comments and their potential impact on the coalition government’s morale, the Prime Minister dismissed any notion of discord, noting that she had recently sat beside him without issue. She clarified that Thaksin’s opinions on the Interior Ministry’s performance were his own and that she had yet to form an assessment.

When asked about her interactions with Thaksin, Prime Minister Paethongtarn confirmed that they maintain regular communication, often speaking daily. She also addressed concerns about perceptions of dominance within the Pheu Thai Party, acknowledging the sentiment but asserting that domination is a personal perception and not a reality within the party.

The Prime Minister refrained from commenting directly on the performance of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, suggesting instead that inquiries be directed to him. She emphasized the structured processes within each ministry, which dictate what can and cannot be accomplished.

Regarding the potential for the Pheu Thai Party to oversee the Ministry of Interior, the Prime Minister deferred to Thaksin for further details, reiterating that no changes had been made thus far. She maintained that future developments remain possible, reflecting her stance that anything is possible, as she has stated in the past.

The strength of the coalition government was affirmed by the Prime Minister, who expressed gratitude to cabinet members for their support and commitment to implementing policies for the public’s benefit. In addressing the Bhumjaithai Party’s views on the government’s digital money handout policy, she welcomed their input and indicated a willingness to consider alternatives.

The Prime Minister concluded by stating that no definitive actions regarding a cabinet reshuffle had been taken, reiterating her earlier point that anything could happen. She firmly denied any potential for Thaksin to exert dominance over the country, highlighting that his role is advisory and subject to consideration by others, including his daughter.
