Bangkok: The Thai-Cambodian border in Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province, remains quiet following a night of “haunting noises” from the Thai side, with an IoT team visiting the Cambodian side. Reporters observed the atmosphere along the border at Ban Nong Chan and Ban Nong Ya Kaeo, Non Mak Mun Subdistrict, which is just a few kilometers from the border. This morning, the overall situation remained calm, with no crowds from either side gathering as in previous periods.
According to Thai News Agency, last night, the Thai side played eerie sounds along the border as a psychological response to earlier protest movements on the Cambodian side. Meanwhile, a Cambodian IoT team inspected the area opposite Nong Ya Kaeo village. This resulted in a calm atmosphere on both sides this morning, with no further signs of public gathering or mass protests.
Officials noted a higher-than-usual volume of vehicles entering and exiting Nong Chok and Nong Ya Kaew villages throughout the morning. This is suspected to be the activity of local residents and officials, but it remains unclear if any specific groups are involved.
The Burapha Task Force used drones to survey the area from a high angle and found that the situation in both villages remained normal, with no unusual activity. Along the Cambodian border, only five soldiers were stationed, remaining on duty as usual, with no additional personnel seen or appearing to be in any preparedness.
Further reports indicate that Cambodian soldiers may have been fatigued from their nightly duties following a series of loud noises from the Thai side last night, with no official rotation of troops taking place this morning.
Meanwhile, Thai officials have deployed 24-hour border patrols to prevent further tensions and are closely monitoring the movements of protesters on both sides. Noon through evening today is expected to be a crucial time to monitor any further movement of protesters from Cambodia into the area. This follows attempts to incite people to rally near the border last week to pressure Thailand to release detained Cambodian soldiers. Overall, the Thai-Cambodian border situation in Khok Sung District remains peaceful, with security forces and the Burapha Force firmly stationed in the area, prepared to handle any potential situations.
