Bangkok: Cambodia has yet to cooperate in clearing landmines, following a push by Thailand at the “RBC Thailand-Cambodia” forum in the Chanthaburi-Trat border area. Resolving the scammer problem has been put on hold for discussion at the next meeting.
According to Thai News Agency, Rear Admiral Parat Rattanachaiphan, deputy spokesman for the Royal Thai Navy, revealed that Vice Admiral Apichart Sapprasert, Commander of the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defense Command, and Major General Uy Hiang, Commander of the Third Military Region of the Royal Cambodian Army, along with the regional border committees from both sides, convened an extraordinary meeting of the Thai-Cambodian Regional Border Committee (RBC) in Thailand at Ban Talay Phu Resort, Khlong Yai District, Trat Province. The meeting aimed to discuss resolving various issues to maintain peace and order in the area and facilitate peaceful living among the peoples of both countries.
By signing the “Memorandum of Understanding on the Special Meeting of the Regional Border Committee (RBC) between the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Defence Command, Kingdom of Thailand and Region 3, Kingdom of Cambodia, on 16 August 2025 in Trat Province, Thailand,” the parties involved sought to address these concerns.
The Deputy Spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy stated that this meeting was in accordance with the GBC framework held on August 7th, emphasizing Thailand’s commitment to a peaceful resolution process in accordance with international rules. The Thai side has also made additional proposals regarding mine clearance to ensure safety in the Thai-Cambodian border area and the suppression of scammers, which have previously received insufficient cooperation from Cambodia.
“From today’s meeting, no response has been received from the Cambodian side. We still hope that the Cambodian side will show sincerity in supporting the mission to clear the remaining mines along the border and the suppression of scammers at the next meeting,” said the Deputy Spokesperson.
