Sa Kaeo: The Commander of the 1st Army has issued an order to shut down all types of border crossings along the Thai-Cambodian border in Sa Kaeo Province. This decision aims to manage the flow of people and vehicles across the border amidst tensions between the two nations.
According to Thai News Agency, the order was signed by Lt. Gen. Amorn Boonsuya, Commander of the 1st Army Region, referencing the Royal Thai Army (Special) Order No. 806/2025 and the 1st Army (Special) Order No. 878/2024, both of which pertain to controlling border crossings. The recent activities by Cambodian soldiers, which reportedly include patrolling, fortification improvements, and terrain modifications, have raised concerns about encroachments on Thai sovereignty. These developments have caused distress among residents in the border areas, potentially affecting their safety.
The closure measures are part of a broader strategy to address various issues arising from the current situation. Concerns have been raised about the potential for transnational crimes, including call center scams and hybrid scams, which threaten the safety and property of people in the region. The 1st Army Area, tasked with overseeing the Thai-Cambodian border in Sa Kaeo Province, is prioritizing national interests and the security of the Thai people by implementing these stringent measures.
The order includes a prohibition on the entry and exit of all vehicles and individuals, including citizens and tourists of all nationalities, as well as a ban on all types of trade. However, exceptions are allowed for humanitarian purposes, such as medical treatment, urgent patient referrals, and educational activities, ensuring that essential needs of the population are met. The order, effective immediately, underscores the commitment to maintaining security in the border region.
