Nakhon ratchasima: Region 2 Army Commander has mandated comprehensive welfare rights and compensation for a soldier who suffered a severe injury after stepping on a landmine. The soldier, who has been promoted to the rank of sergeant, will receive a pension of nearly 30,000 baht per month and financial assistance exceeding 1 million baht. The soldier’s heir has also been appointed to a civil service position.
According to Thai News Agency, the report from the 2nd Army Region on July 17, 2015, highlighted the actions taken by Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, Commander of the 2nd Army Region. He directed the personnel department to examine the rights of military officers engaged in field duties. The directive focused on providing the highest possible reward to Private Thanapat Huiwan, who was injured while patrolling Hill 481. Following his medical treatment and subsequent discharge due to injury, he was promoted to Sergeant Major and granted a monthly pension of 15,600 baht. When additional monthly payments from various agencies are considered, his estimated total monthly income will be approximately 29,800 baht. Additionally, he will receive a lump sum payment of around 1,047,150 baht from various sources.
The initiative also includes the appointment of an heir for the elder sister at the rank of sergeant. Furthermore, upon discharge due to disability, the soldier can exercise the right to participate in a project under Section 35 (3) or 35 (7). He has also been awarded the Freedom Defenders Medal, Class 2, Category 1, and a Class 3 veteran’s card, which provides lifelong reductions in costs for utilities and travel.
