Region 2 Army Commander Rebukes Cambodia’s Fake News Campaign

Bangkok: The Second Army Region Commander, Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang, reassured the public by announcing, “I’m still here,” following the circulation of fake news by Cambodia, which aimed to undermine military morale by displaying soldiers with pictures and messages stating “RIP.” He emphasized his commitment to standing alongside his subordinates to safeguard the populace amid ongoing confrontations at the Thai-Cambodian border.

According to Thai News Agency, on July 28, 2015, Lt. Gen. Boonsin Phadklang addressed the issue after Cambodia disseminated a misleading photo depicting a soldier with his own image and an “RIP” message. He condemned the act as a deliberate attempt to demoralize frontline soldiers and the Thai public. The commander reaffirmed his dedication to fighting alongside military personnel in the border region to ensure the safety of civilians and protect Thailand’s sovereignty until the situation stabilizes.

Lt. Gen. Boonsin also highlighted that Cambodia has engaged in similar tactics previously, seeking to spread misinformation and create confusion among the Thai populace. He urged the public to rely on credible sources for updates and information.
