Bangkok: Thai soldiers have successfully dismantled cable cars and stairs, effectively blocking Cambodia’s access to Phu Makhuea, amid ongoing territorial tensions. This development comes after the Thai military expelled Cambodian troops from the area and established a presence by planting the Thai flag at the summit of Phu Makhuea.
According to Thai News Agency, tensions escalated when Cambodian soldiers attempted to reclaim the territory. The Thai military responded by destroying the cable car and stairs built by the Cambodians, which were deemed a violation of Memorandum of Understanding 43. Despite numerous protest letters sent by Thailand, Cambodia has reportedly ignored these communications.
Images released by the Thai military show the dismantling of the cable car system, with the base and stairs leading to Phu Makhuea now completely removed. This strategic move is intended to prevent Cambodian forces from ascending the area. Currently, Cambodian troops remain stationed at the base of the Phu Makhuea cliff, unable to advance further.
