Region 2 Army Confirms Security Commitment Amidst Ongoing Mine Investigation

Ubon ratchathani: The 2nd Army has reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining security in border areas while awaiting the results of an official analysis concerning a recent landmine incident. The analysis, expected to take 2-3 days, aims to ensure accuracy and avoid public confusion.

According to Thai News Agency, on July 17, 2015, the 2nd Army Area issued a press release addressing the dissemination of information regarding an accident involving personnel who stepped on a landmine in the Chong Bok area, Nam Yuen District. The incident raised concerns that the mine may have been newly planted.

The incident occurred on July 16, 2015, when members of the 6021st Company were patrolling the Chong Bok area and triggered a landmine, resulting in three injuries. The unit promptly evacuated the area to transport the injured to Saraphithiprasong Camp Hospital due to the potential risk of further danger.

Later, on the afternoon of July 17, Lieutenant General Boonsin Phadklang, Commander of the 2nd Army Region, instructed the bomb disposal unit to conduct a thorough inspection of the site. The team collected evidence to be analyzed by bomb experts to determine the mine’s type and origin, and whether it was an old or recent installation.

The 2nd Army Region has requested that the public await the official investigation results, anticipated in 2-3 days, before any official updates are released. This approach aims to maintain clarity and prevent misinformation, urging the public to rely on information from security agencies or official government channels.

The 2nd Army Region extends its gratitude for public concern and reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding the border area’s safety and ensuring peace and order for the people.
