Rescue Teams Save One-Month-Old Baby from Rising Floodwaters in Loei Province

Bangkok: Rescuers from Sawang Khiri Tham in Loei Province successfully rescued a one-month-old baby and a five-year-old child who were trapped in a house in the Talat Muang Mai (Ban Lang) community. Residents and their families called for help late last night as the Loei River overflowed, flooding low-lying areas and making it impossible to leave the house.

According to Thai News Agency, the team carefully supported the mother and carried the infant while the five-year-old child walked against the strong current to safety. The water level at the Loei River gauge in front of the Loei City Municipality office rose to 10.30 meters this morning, with concerns that another 30 centimeters could cause overflow into the central business district.

In addition to rescue efforts, Mr. Chaiphot Charoonpong, the Governor of Loei Province, provided royal relief supplies to flood victims in Sri Than Subdistrict. He also ordered the installation of water pumps to expedite drainage in Mueang District. The province has been affected by Tropical Storms Kajiki and Nongfa since August 31st, leading to significant flooding in various areas.

The impact of these storms has resulted in heavy rainfall and overflow from the Nam Loei Reservoir into the Loei River, affecting 300 people and damaging 100 homes across multiple districts. Officials are providing urgent assistance and have urged residents to heed government warnings and safety recommendations. The province remains committed to offering comprehensive support to those affected by the floodwaters.
