Revenue Department Enforces Strict E-Donation Policy for Temple Donations

Bangkok: The Revenue Department is enforcing a strict deduction policy for temple donations via the e-Donation system only. Temples are advised to register with their local revenue offices as soon as possible, starting January 1, 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, the Revenue Department has issued an urgent letter to the Director of the National Office of Buddhism regarding the development of tax benefits for donations to temples. This initiative will utilize the Revenue Department's electronic donation (e-Donation) system, supporting the government's policy of developing a digital government system to enhance government services for greater convenience and speed.

The Revenue Department has amended the law to facilitate donors to temples, foundations, associations, funds, and organizations designated by the Minister of Finance as charitable organizations or institutions. This change enables donors to conveniently, quickly, and transparently utilize tax benefits through e-Donation, eliminating the need to keep proof of donation, and receiving tax refunds more quickly. This effort aims to facilitate and reduce the burden on donation recipients by eliminating the need to prepare and keep paper proof of donation, as well as promoting transparency and credibility among donation recipients.

The amendment to the law stipulates that donations to temples, foundations, associations, funds, and various organizations, for which donors are entitled to a deduction of donations or donation expenses, must use only the Revenue Department's e-Donation system. This will be effective from January 1, 2026 onwards.
