River Water Levels Surge, Flooding Homes and Roads in Mae Sai District

Mae sai: After continuous rain throughout the night, water from the headwaters of Ban Chotada, Myanmar, flowed into the river, causing it to overflow and flood homes and commercial areas. The water level in the Mae Sai River in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, is high above the banks, flowing rapidly and is a dark red, overflowing through the gaps in some buildings.

According to Thai News Agency, engineers and the Wiang Pang Kham Subdistrict Municipality and the Mae Sai Subdistrict Municipality have gone to the area to survey the strength of the water. Water from the leak has flooded the area under the first bridge, the Koh Sai community, and the Mai Lung Khon community, but the water volume is not yet very high. The Mae Sai Subdistrict Municipality has issued a public relations announcement via a public relations vehicle for residents in the area to closely monitor the situation and prepare for a large amount of water so they can evacuate the area in time.

From the survey, it was found that there were 10 points where water had overflowed through the cracks, divided into 4 houses with floors that had burst, and 6 houses with walls that had burst with water. In Mae Chan District, water has flooded the road surface of Phahonyothin Road in 2 places: 1st place: Ban Rong Phak Nam – Radio Station 914 – Ban Pong Or, Mae Chan Subdistrict; 2nd place: Mae Rai River (at the Doi Tung intersection red light area). Water has flooded the road surface and some houses in Villages 7 and 9, Mae Rai Subdistrict.

The Chiang Rai Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command has ordered relevant agencies to prepare equipment, machinery, military supplies, and personnel to provide immediate assistance 24 hours a day upon request. This is to expedite assistance to the public and alleviate initial suffering.
