Royal Thai Army Clarifies Clash with Cambodian Soldiers at Chong An Ma

Ubon ratchathani: The Royal Thai Army has clarified the recent clash between Thai and Cambodian soldiers at the Aan Ma Channel, stating that the incident was sparked by Cambodian soldiers moving closer to Thai territory out of curiosity, beyond the agreed boundaries.

According to Thai News Agency, Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari addressed the incident, which took place on July 9, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. The event gained attention after a video clip was posted on the “Army Military Force” Facebook page, showing an argument between the two countries’ military officers. The clash occurred in the Chong An Ma area, Tambon Song, Amphoe Nam Yuen, Ubon Ratchathani Province, under the jurisdiction of the 2310th Ranger Company.

The investigation revealed that approximately seven Thai soldiers were preparing the site for internal activities and inspections by their commander. It is believed that the Cambodian soldiers noticed unusual activities by the Thai military and approached to observe closely. The Thai soldiers requested the Cambodian soldiers to maintain an appropriate distance, leading to a verbal argument. However, both parties managed to explain their positions and reached an understanding. The Thai military emphasized that their activities did not encroach on Cambodian territory.
