Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has clarified that there is no order to evacuate residents from Surin Province and has denied rumors of an impending attack on Cambodia. This comes amidst heightened tensions and misinformation circulating on social media.
According to Thai News Agency, the rumors gained traction after former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen shared social media posts by a Cambodian Ministry of Defense spokesperson, suggesting that the Royal Thai Army had mandated an evacuation in preparation for an attack ahead of a General Border Committee (GBC) meeting. However, Army spokesman Major General Winthai Suwaree confirmed the inaccuracy of these claims and assured that no evacuation orders have been issued.
The Royal Thai Army urges the public to rely on official sources for accurate information and to avoid spreading false reports that could incite public panic. The spokesperson emphasized that the Thai Army remains committed to the ceasefire agreement, although it remains vigilant and prepared for any violations by Cambodian forces, particularly in light of recent discoveries of additional personnel and equipment near the border.
