Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army fired a royal salute to honor Her Majesty the Queen Mother on the occasion of her birthday, August 12, 2025. Today at 12:00 noon at Sanam Luang, Royal Thai Army, the 1st Artillery Battalion, 1st Artillery Regiment, King’s Guard, fired a 21-gun royal salute to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
According to Thai News Agency, the artillery company utilized four 75mm Type 80 light artillery guns, firing 21 rounds at 5-second intervals to the rhythm of the Royal Anthem. The salute was executed with precision, with rounds fired one at a time, counting from right to left, culminating in a total firing time of 1 minute and 40 seconds. This honorable gesture was conducted simultaneously by all three branches of the armed forces.
The tradition of firing a salute holds a significant place in the Kingdom of Thailand, serving as a mark of respect to the nation or its prominent figures. The practice is upheld by the three branches of the military during key occasions, such as the Royal Birthday Ceremony, the Royal Coronation Ceremony, or the birthday of the Crown Prince. The ceremony to welcome the King or a head of state is also marked by a 21-gun salute as a demonstration of utmost respect.
