Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has firmly denied accusations from Cambodia regarding violations of the ceasefire agreement between the two nations. A spokesman for the Royal Thai Army responded to statements made by Cambodian Defense Ministry spokesperson Mali, asserting that Cambodia, not Thailand, is responsible for breaches of the agreement.
According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Malee Sojiata, a spokesperson for Thailand’s Ministry of Defense, addressed claims from Cambodia that the country adheres to the ceasefire terms. He noted that Cambodia has accused Thailand of not complying with these terms and has called for the return of 18 captured Cambodian soldiers. In contrast, Thai Army spokesman Major General Winthai Suvari emphasized evidence suggesting Cambodian violations, including the use of PMN-2 landmines, drone patrols over Thai borders, and provocative actions by Cambodian soldiers against Thai forces.
Major General Suvari stated that Cambodia’s actions contradict the ceasefire agreement, and urged Cambodia to adhere strictly to the terms. He highlighted the importance of halting hostile activities such as the deployment of weapons and false information campaigns. He also urged Cambodia to refrain from inciting its people and increasing military presence in border areas.
Furthermore, the spokesman addressed the issue of the 18 Cambodian prisoners of war, emphasizing that Thailand’s treatment of prisoners complies with international standards and has been subject to inspections by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The Royal Thai Army reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreement, advocating for peace and stability between the two countries while maintaining restraint and promoting a peaceful resolution to ongoing tensions.
