Bangkok: The Palang Pracharath Party expressed gratitude to its coalition partners for supporting the draft bill aimed at promoting a peaceful society. In tandem, the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party reiterated its position against granting amnesty to individuals involved in crimes under Section 112, corruption, and serious criminal offenses. The party confirmed its intention to propose legislation fostering national reconciliation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Akaradej Wongpitakroj, a Member of Parliament for Ratchaburi Province and spokesman for the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, announced the developments following a meeting of the party’s House of Representatives members. The Government Coalition Party Coordination Committee, or Government Whip, agreed to prioritize the draft Act on Promoting a Peaceful Society B.E. …, introduced by Mr. Wichai Sutsawat and fellow Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party representatives.
The Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party thanked coalition parties for their support of the draft bill, which aims to grant amnesty for politically motivated crimes, excluding those based on serious legal violations. The offenses explicitly excluded from amnesty under the proposed draft include:
1. Offenses under Section 112 of the Criminal Code
2. Corruption-related offenses
3. Serious criminal offenses, such as causing death
The government whip also approved a similar draft bill by Mr. Preeda Boonpleng, which aligns with the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party’s stance against granting amnesty for certain offenses. However, the party rejected drafts by Mr. Chaiwat Tulathan and the public sector due to concerns about potential loopholes allowing amnesty for Section 112 offenses.
Mr. Akkaradet emphasized the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party’s firm position against amnesty for offenses under Article 112, corruption, and serious criminal cases.
