Bangkok: Sa Kaeo Province has successfully completed an evacuation drill aimed at preparing residents for potential emergencies, although there is a recognized need for enhanced public relations efforts to ensure community awareness and coordination.
According to Thai News Agency, the Governor of Sa Kaeo Province, Mr. Parinya Phothisat, engaged with community leaders and local stakeholders in Ban Nong Chan to discuss evacuation strategies. The drill involved representatives from various communities gathering essential items, prioritizing vulnerable groups such as the elderly and bedridden, and transporting them to designated safe zones.
Despite the successful execution of the drills, feedback from villagers suggests that there is a need for improved communication and understanding of evacuation procedures at the household level. Some residents reported a lack of direct coordination from community leaders, while others indicated that they would instinctively evacuate their families during emergencies, regardless of formal drills.
Meanwhile, the situation in the Ban Nong Ya Sai area, under the surveillance of the Burapha Task Force of the First Army Region, remains stable with no unusual activities observed on the Cambodian side.
In a related development, efforts to clear landmines in disputed Thai territory are underway, with the First Army and Task Force 12 working diligently since October 10th to ensure the area’s safety. Despite objections from Cambodia, Thailand continues its demining activities, asserting its sovereignty over the land.
Furthermore, high-ranking commanders from the Royal Thai Police are expected to visit the border area in Sa Kaeo Province to assess developments and monitor Cambodian movements, which have been notably subdued since yesterday.
