Bangkok: Senator Angkana Neelapaijit has raised concerns about the potential psychological impact of playing ghost and fighter plane sounds in Ban Nong Chan, suggesting it might amount to psychological torture. She highlighted that Cambodia has already taken the issue to the United Nations and stressed that Thailand, being part of the same international network, should address the matter seriously.
According to Thai News Agency, Senator Angkana took to Facebook to express her concerns regarding the late-night disturbances in Ban Nong Chan, located in Sa Kaeo Province. She noted that during times of conflict, the actions of influencers or groups creating fear could pose a significant challenge to the government, especially the Foreign Ministry. She emphasized the importance of the Thai government recognizing that these incidents have been reported to the United Nations.
Senator Angkana mentioned that on October 11, Keo Remy, Chairman of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, addressed a letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The letter pointed out that actions inciting fear or affecting the psyche of civilians, including those involved in conflicts, could be considered psychological torture under the CAT Convention, to which Thailand is a signatory. Senator Angkana is awaiting the Thai government’s explanation on how it plans to address this issue on an international platform.
