Samui Police Strictly Enforce Traffic Laws with Hefty Fines

Koh Samui: Koh Samui police are serious! Enforce the Land Traffic Act on wearing helmets, with a maximum fine of 2,000 baht. Many tourists found driving illegally. At the fountain roundabout, Bo Phut Subdistrict, Koh Samui District, Surat Thani Province, Pol. Lt. Sophon Maksuwan, Deputy Inspector of Traffic Police, Bo Phut Police Station, led a team of traffic police to set up a checkpoint to enforce traffic discipline and strictly enforce the Land Traffic Act, Section 122, which requires motorcyclists, both the driver and the passenger, to wear helmets. If they do not wear them, the driver will be fined a maximum of 2,000 baht. In particular, passengers who do not wear helmets will be fined twice as much, which has been in effect since June 1.

According to Thai News Agency, from the first day of setting up checkpoints to strictly enforce traffic discipline, it was found that many Thais and foreign tourists did not wear helmets. One reason for not wearing helmets was that they were running errands nearby and
did not know that the Land Traffic Act had already come into effect. There were many other reasons that they could cite. Therefore, the police officers issued fines.

It must be emphasized again that the enforcement of the said Act is to prevent accidents. Helmets can help prevent brain injuries from being affected, making serious injuries less serious. Therefore, the public is requested to strictly comply with the Land Traffic Act.
