Senate Approves 2016 Budget Bill with Overwhelming Majority

Bangkok: The Senate passed the 2016 budget bill with a vote of 151:1. The Senate approved the draft budget bill 2016 by a vote of 151 to 1, with 1 vote against and 27 abstentions. The Senate meeting, chaired by Second Vice President of the Senate, Mr. Boonsong Noisophon, concluded after the Senate debated the content of the draft Budget Act for the fiscal year 2026. The Senate then voted on whether to approve the draft bill.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira, representing the government, then thanked the Senate for approving the draft 2016 budget bill, a key tool for driving government policy, the national strategy, and various development plans, driving sustainable economic growth. The government gratefully acknowledged their comments, suggestions, and concerns, and will use their consideration to improve budget units to maximize public benefit.

“Please be assured that the policies and budgets reviewed will be implemented in accordance with the plans and objectives. The government will use the budget transparently, be accountable, and achieve results to propel the country forward amidst the current rapidly changing situation,” said Mr. Pichai.
