Bangkok: “Siriphong” has stated that should the people choose not to back him, he is prepared to return to the opposition. He addressed rumors about a potential dissolution of parliament, expressing that Bhumtham had long suggested that if confident, one should proceed, while also understanding the associated risks, especially if the move results in a loss of power. He reiterated that the Bhumjaithai Party harbors no fear of elections and is prepared for its responsibilities, acknowledging that the Orange Party might harbor suspicions about both sides.
According to Thai News Agency, on September 2, 2025, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Deputy Leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, discussed the potential dissolution of parliament by the caretaker government. He mentioned that if the caretaker Prime Minister feels assured about his authority, he should proceed with the dissolution. He noted that there has been a long-standing debate among legal experts about whether such a dissolution is feasible, and he urged people to independently evaluate the risks involved, as the topic has been extensively deliberated.
In response to questions about whether the Bhumjaithai Party is ready for an election, Mr. Siripong confirmed the party’s preparedness. He highlighted that the party leader’s directives were reviewed, and preparations for candidate selection and election processes are underway, with the Bhumjaithai Party raising no objections.
When questioned about whether the potential dissolution tests the Pheu Thai Party’s determination, Mr. Siripong stated that it depends on various factors. He emphasized that the reasons for dissolving parliament should be carefully considered, noting that if there are concerns about Bhumjaithai gathering enough votes to form a government and oust the current caretaker government, the decision rests with the authorities.
Mr. Siripong also conveyed that if the People’s Party decides not to collaborate with the Bhumjaithai Party, they are ready to continue as the opposition, maintaining their responsibilities as usual. He mentioned that discussions had occurred before August 29th regarding the party’s potential future actions, and if the People’s Party chooses not to support them, they will respect that choice.
Regarding whether the People’s Party needs caution, especially since the Pheu Thai Party has previously reneged on promises, Mr. Siripong mentioned that the People’s Party would exercise their discretion. He stated that party leaders have already expressed their views, negating the need for further advice, as both factions are aware of the mutual suspicions. He assured that the Bhumjaithai Party remains sincere and committed to performing their duties effectively.
