Pheu Thai Party Secretary Awaits Public Response on Political Future

Bangkok: Pheu Thai Party Secretary-General Mr. Sorawong Thienthong is still awaiting a response from the public regarding the political direction of the party. He acknowledged the possibility of dissolving parliament if no party is chosen to form a government.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sorawong, who is also the Minister of Tourism and Sports, provided an update on the ongoing discussions with the Prachachon Party about a potential joint vote to support Chaikasem Nitisiri, the Pheu Thai’s candidate for prime minister. The People’s Party is expected to hold a joint meeting to deliberate further, as it is currently gathering opinions from its members. The Pheu Thai Party has also accepted a proposal from the Prachachon Party and suggested a referendum to implement the 1997 Constitution, emphasizing that this suggestion is not meant to exert pressure.

Mr. Sorawong mentioned that dissolving parliament remains a possibility if the People’s Party decides not to align with either side. He clarified that while dissolution is an option, it is not intended as a means to apply pressure on the People’s Party. He also noted that this decision is within the legal scope of the caretaker government.

When asked if dissolving parliament would be the ultimate measure, Mr. Sorawong stated it is not considered the final course of action, but it remains a legal option. The decision to proceed with dissolution would rest with the responsible authority.
