Songkhla to Host 2025 King’s Cup Sepak Takraw Championship, Highlighting Its Status as Sports Hub

Songkhla: Songkhla Province has solidified its reputation as a central hub for sports by securing the hosting rights for the 38th King’s Cup Sepak Takraw World Championship in 2025. This international event will be broadcast live across Thailand, showcasing the province’s commitment to promoting sports and tourism.

According to Thai News Agency, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for organizing this prestigious championship was signed on June 13, 2025, at the Laguna Grand Hotel and Spa. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Mr. Chotinarin Koetsom, Governor of Songkhla Province, and Mr. Sihasak Areeratchakarn, Secretary-General of the Takraw Association of Thailand, among other local officials and executives.

Governor Chotinarin emphasized the significance of the event, expressing gratitude to all involved parties. He highlighted that the championship offers Songkhla an opportunity to elevate the global visibility of Sepak Takraw, a sport deeply rooted in Thai culture, and ensure a smooth and orderly competition as representatives of the region.

Mr. Supit Pitaktham, President of the Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization, reiterated the province’s ambition to become a leading sports city. He stated that the championship aligns with Songkhla’s policy of promoting sports tourism, which is expected to boost local economic activity and international interest.

The event will take place at the Central Festival Hatyai, with preparations already underway to ensure venue readiness. Mr. Supit expressed confidence that hosting such a significant sporting event will stimulate the local economy and pave the way for future international competitions in Songkhla.

Mr. Sihasak Areeratchakarn shared the broader vision of enhancing the global presence of Sepak Takraw, with hopes of its inclusion in the Olympic Games. He noted that the competition will feature participants from 34 countries, presenting an opportunity to showcase the sport’s potential on a global stage.

The 38th Sepak Takraw World Championship for the King’s Cup is scheduled for July 22-28, 2025, at Hat Yai Hall, Central Hat Yai Shopping Center. The event will feature 34 teams and will be broadcast live on Thai PBS, both on television and online platforms.
