Bangkok: Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Minister of Commerce and Deputy Leader of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party (RTSC), has issued an apology to senior members of the Phalang Pracharath Party for any discomfort caused by a recent dinner appointment with MPs. The dinner, which was meant for casual discussion, has sparked speculation about a potential “New Opportunity” deal, which Suchart emphasizes has not been finalized.
According to Thai News Agency, Suchart addressed the controversy surrounding a photograph that captured him dining with a group of MPs from the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party. He mentioned having communicated with Mr. Ekkanat Promphan, Minister of Industry and Secretary-General of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, asserting the importance of respecting party rules and the household they inhabit. He stressed the need to adhere to party regulations, indicating that the dinner was merely an informal gathering and not a formal discussion of new deals.
Suchart clarified that discussions during the dinner were not unusual, as they had been meeting for months. He expressed regret if the gathering caused any misunderstanding or discomfort among senior party members. Suchart explained that while the party suits certain groups, it might not align with his context, emphasizing the need for personal direction in politics.
Regarding the potential deal with the New Opportunity Party, Suchart confirmed that no official agreement had been reached, and any political moves would be conducted with decorum. He addressed the leaked photos, assuring that they were not his doing and reaffirmed the representatives’ rights to privacy.
Suchart acknowledged the recent amendments to party regulations, asserting his acceptance of the changes. He posed the question of public perception should he decide to resign, highlighting his commitment to face reality and move forward without conflict.
When questioned about his potential inclusion in a cabinet reshuffle, Suchart deferred to the Prime Minister’s authority, indicating that any such decisions were out of his hands.
Suchart emphasized the importance of considering the country’s direction in political decision-making, hinting at possible future alignments while maintaining respect for his current party. He expressed gratitude for his time with the party, affirming a respectful departure should it come to that.
In response to questions about shared political ideologies within the party, Suchart urged for privacy, emphasizing personal responsibility in political matters and calling for a relaxed approach to the situation.
