Suratin Insists No Orders Were Given to File Complaint Against Bhumtham Under Section 112

Bangkok: Suratin maintains there is no directive to file a complaint against Bhumtham under Section 112. He asserts that he acted independently and without instructions, emphasizing his role as a loyal citizen rather than any political influence.

According to Thai News Agency, Nansurin Picharn, a party-list MP and leader of the New Democracy Party, addressed the complaint lodged against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai. The complaint alleges a violation of Section 112 of the Criminal Code concerning a petition to dissolve Parliament. Picharn described his actions as driven by a commitment to protect the institution, asserting that Mr. Phumtham’s actions were offensive to His Majesty the King.

It is contended that Mr. Phumtham lacks the authority to request a royal dissolution of Parliament. The Secretary-General of the Council of State had previously advised against such a request. Despite this, it is alleged that Mr. Phumtham proceeded, potentially violating legal protocols.

When questioned about the potential impact on Anutin Charnvirakul’s candidacy for prime minister, Suratin expressed no concern. He stated the New Democracy Party’s readiness to face any political outcome, indicating that the complaint was solely motivated by loyalty to the institution.

Suratin clarified that he did not consult with others before filing the complaint and emphasized that this was a personal decision, independent of any external influences. He noted that the police had convened a substantial meeting to deliberate the complaint under Section 112, which aligns with their official responsibilities. Suratin reiterated that he received no orders from any party in this matter.
